WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The Overtime Theater's new show "Tricksters: A Comedy of Godly Proportions" will play through June 12
  • This is the theatre's first play since the coronavirus outbreak

On Friday, the Overtime Theater opened a new production, its first since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak. Written and directed by Scott McDowell, the play is called Tricksters: A Dark Comedy of Godly Proportions.

Every 100 years, the gods of trickery and mischief meet in a pub on the edge of reality to play an unusual game, a match full of deviousness, bravado, and bragging. But, when a new guest arrives, the game takes a disruptive turn that leaves their worlds changed forever.

The show features Sarah Goodwin as Dionysus, Ashley Hamilton as Loki, Angie Hernandez as Coyote, Elise Hernandez as Sholo, Timothy McCain as Azeban, Jonathan Schell as Dolos, and Christopher Steinmetz as Sam Bailey.

McDowell is vice president of The Overtime Theater’s executive board. He has written and directed multiple productions at the Overtime including Captain Cortez, Queen’s Castle, Port Cove, and Sherlock Holmes

“I’m so thankful to everyone who donated to help keep our doors open during the pandemic,” said Nicole Erwin, managing director. “Kicking off this reopening with a play by Scott McDowell, who is a community favorite and one of the original founders of the theatre, feels like a new beginning for The Overtime.”

The play will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. from May 29 through June 12, 2021. There will be one matinee on Sunday, June 6 at 3 p.m. Admission is $15.

The Overtime Theater is located at 5409 Bandera Road, Suite 205.

According to a press release, “all Overtime performers are fully vaccinated” for Covid-19. The theatre recommends that unvaccinated patrons wear a mask. Seating is limited due to socially distanced seating.
