  • Award-winning singer Melissa Etheridge will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021 at the Tobin Center
  • Etheridge is currently on tour promoting her fifteenth studio album, 'The Medicine Show'

In observance of National Coming Out Week, award-winning singer Melissa Etheridge will perform at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021.

With music from her new album The Medicine Show, the Grammy and Oscar award-winning performer is currently on tour promoting her fifteenth studio recording.

Song titles from the album include Wild and Lonely and Faded by Design, which both explore themes of her past with a new perspective. Her new album deals with universal themes of renewal, reconciliation, reckoning, compassion and, most profoundly, healing, according to a Tobin press release.

Etheridge first entered the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show.

As her popularity grew, so did her discography, offering rock fans tunes like Bring Me Some Water, No Souvenirs and Ain’t It Heavy, for which she won a Grammy award in 1992. However, it was Etheridge’s fourth album Yes I Am (1993) that brought her notable commercial success. The collection featured such hits as I’m the Only One and Come to My Window, which brought Etheridge her second Grammy award for Best Female Rock Performance

In 1995, Etheridge issued her highest-charting album, Your Little Secret, which was distinguished by the hit single, I Want to Come Over

Early in her recording career, Etheridge came out as a lesbian. In 2004, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, a health battle that she has won.

“I want people to go, ‘Oh, on my bucket list, I have to go see a Melissa Etheridge show. That’s supposed to be one of the greatest shows.’ That’s my goal,” said Etheridge in an interview with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in August.

This will be a full-capacity show. Tickets are available at tobincenter.org.
