The spirit of Valentine's Day usually involves hearts, chocolates, and adorable stuffed animals.

However, this Valentine's Day - the nonprofit Spare Parts is hosting two public workshops to help area love birds to create a unique and green-style gift for their significant others. According to their website, Spare Parts has existed since 2011 in order to advance reuse and sustainability through creativity and the arts.

The first annual Sunday Funday, as the workshops are creatively dubbed, will be at La Botanica on Feb. 9 where art educator Eric Cavazos will be facilitating two reuse workshops. The fee for each workshop is five dollars and is open to all ages.

The first workshop, a Valentine's Day gift bag, will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and the second workshop is a Valentine's wreath class from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

“Substainability, affordability and accessibility to the arts through reuse education is paramount. Our organization inspires and supports the growing creative community and our classrooms through environmental accountability,” the event press release said.
