WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- The advocacy group Defending Democracy Together released a new ad Wednesday featuring former Trump administration staffer Miles Taylor
- Taylor has described President Donald J. Trump as “actively doing damage to our security” in a previously released Repubican Voters Against Trump video
On Wednesday, Republican Voters Against Trump, a project of the advocacy group Defending Democracy Together, released a new ad entitled Miles Taylor for Biden as part of a new campaign. This is an usual circumstance; a sitting U.S. president’s former staff member is appearing in a television ad endorsing his opponent.
Taylor, a former Department of Homeland Security Chief of Staff in the Trump Administration who served from 2017-2019, has described President Donald J. Trump as “actively doing damage to our security” in a previously released RVAT video.
In the new ad, Taylor says the president told DHS to stop providing funds to residents who had lost homes in the California wildfires in 2018 “because they weren’t part of his political base.” He also claims that the president wanted a “deliberate policy in place to take children away from their parents at the border,” according to RVAT spokesperson Meaghan Leister.
The ad will run ahead of the Republican National Convention in swing states this weekend on Fox News Sunday and will air next week nationally on Fox & Friends.
A lengthy gallery of testimonial videos from Republicans, former Republicans, conservatives, and former Trump voters who feel they cannot support Trump’s reelection bid this fall can be found at rvat.org.
Defending Democracy Together was created by lifelong conservatives and Republicans, many of whom have served in Republican administrations.

Meanwhile, as the race to November ramps up, Trump supporters like Lynnette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, the pro-MAGA video bloggers known as Diamond and Silk, are speaking out in support of the incumbent.
“President Trump is our only hope,” they said in a campaign newsletter requesting donations. “The future of our country is at stake and we’ve come too far under this president to let things go back to the way they were before. Do you really want another [President Barack] Obama? We didn’t think so!”
