On Father’s Day, the San Antonio International Airport will host its 20th anniversary Summer Solstice Dance Performance. The presentation will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2021 in the airport’s long-term garage.

The summer solstice happens twice a year - once in each hemisphere - and is the longest day of the year. The summer solstice is when the sun reaches its highest position in the sky and provides the longest period of daylight.

The performance will feature dancer and choreographer Catherine Cisneros, artistic director of Urban-15 and sister-in-law to former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros.

Artist Christopher Janney’s 1998 Passing Light solar sculpture will also be a part of the program. The 400-foot-long permanent installation is composed of four basic elements: fast light, visual music, slow light, and a sundial. The piece incorporates colorful plexiglass squares embedded in the ceiling that project a grid of vivid colors onto the Paseo Walkway in the long-term parking garage. Cisneros will move simultaneously as the sun moves across the sky creating reflections on the walls and floors.

In recent years, the airport has become a place where San Antonio’s most acclaimed artists have been showcased.

The San Antonio International Airport’s long-term parking garage is located at 9800 Airport Blvd.
