On Monday, the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture, in partnership with the San Antonio International Airport, unveiled the latest addition to the City’s public art collection - the Star of Texas by Mexican artist Sebastian.

Installed on the southside of the airport’s entrance on Airport Blvd., the Star of Texas stands 17 feet and is painted fiery red, a color the artist has been known to favor. The structure consists of five vertical steel components and the space at the top of the piece creates the shape of a star when viewed from two vantage points.

“Public art is a significant part of who we are, representing where we’ve been, where we are, and where we hope to go as a community,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “The Star of Texas speaks to the long-lasting impression San Antonio leaves on visitors and residents alike.”

As one of the most prominent artists from Mexico, Sebastian’s artwork can be found all around the globe, including Sweden, Brazil, and Germany.
