WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Jump-Start Theater will present "A Quite Dark Night" Dec. 3-5
- This interactive show will have eerie performances, otherworldly predictions, apparitions, curious parlor games, and ectoplasm
If you’re looking to ring in the holidays in an otherworldly way, director Kim Corbin has conjured up a very supernatural Christmas. This evening of eerie performances, predictions, curious parlor games, and, of course, ectoplasm, will take place at Jump-Start Theater Dec. 3-5.
Upon arrival, earthly patrons may compete in a friendly game of observation, enjoy punch and pâté, and even visit a seer (about Christmas yet to come) before settling into their seats. At that time, an invitation will be extended to the dearly departed to visit, because even the dead enjoy a family get together over the holidays. The evening will draw to a close with the telling of a story billed as "strange."
Specifics about this production will ultimately come to those who choose to attend. Prior to opening night, cast members are appropriately tight-lipped about what will manifest during the three-night run.
"Some of the cast members, [myself] included, are playing several roles, but those are to remain a secret until the show," said Sarah Tijerina, a Jump-Start company member.
According to the theatre’s newsletter, Corbin has “long dreamed of presenting such an evening with her fellow company members, [and] is now fervently hoping for a blue norther to complete the ambience of A Quite Dark Night, fearing that St. Nicholas and Krampus will avoid San Antonio if the temperature is in the 80s.”
It seems safe to assume that humorous moments will swoop in and around this spirited evening.
Then again, maybe that’s what Corbin wants you to think; Jump-Start’s theatrical offerings have a reputation for being wildly unpredictable.
And that’s their strongest suit.
