  • Morin's entry will be showcased at the visual representation of the 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Virtual March

The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture and Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission announced Tuesday that Yesenia Morin’s artwork entitled It Takes All of Us is the winner of the commission’s sixth annual Citywide Art Contest. Morin’s entry will be showcased as the visual representation of the 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Virtual March.

Morin, an 11-year-old student at Northside Independent School District’s Bernal Middle School, created her artwork using computer graphics and digital illustrations. Her art piece depicts individuals of all races and ethnicities holding hands in unity with the Alamo City skyline and the 2021 theme of #weriseupforjustice in the background. A panel selected the artwork based on its concept, artistic imagery, visual representation, and originality.

“Many times, it is our youth that leads the way to stand up for justice and what is right,” said District 2 San Antonio City Councilwoman Jada Andrews-Sullivan. “Yesenia’s artwork serves as a reminder that we all must work together to make positive change in our community and beyond. This is a message that is important now, more than ever.”
