The Carver Community Cultural Center will present Anthony C. Edwards’ new exhibition Anthony C. Edwards, Artist and Collector October 28 through December 21 at the Carver Gallery.
Edwards, who began his career as a painter at the age of 41, gained a new perspective about African American art after attending an exhibition at the High Museum in Atlanta in the early 1980s.
Three decades later, his celebrated work resides in San Antonio Museum of Art’s permanent collection. His art was also included in the Harriet and Harmon Kelley Collection of African American Art exhibition at the Smithsonian Institute.
“I think in my paintings, there is a sense of continuity…that you can imagine spaces not present on the canvas,” Edwards told KSAT 12 News last year.

Edwards’ upcoming show will provide San Antonio art lovers the rare opportunity to view his paintings and stained-glass creations alongside curated pieces from his personal Afrocentric art collection, including three Jonas Perkins sculptures and rare photographs by E.O. Goldbeck.
The opening reception will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 in the Carvery Gallery. The exhibition will be on display from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until December 21. Admission is free.
