Viagran’s Victory: Amazon Announces Plans for South Side Delivery Station

District 3 San Antonio City Councilmember Rebecca J. Viagran is celebrating a big community win this month: Amazon recently announced they will bring three facilities to the Alamo City which will bring jobs to San Antonio and its southern sector. One of the three facilities will be a delivery station located at Brooks in District 3, according to a City press release.
On December 22, the famed company officially committed to its plans to open two new fulfillment centers and a station for new deliveries. The operations will collectively create over 1,500 full-time jobs for San Antonians with competitive pay, benefits, and internal training programs. The delivery station in the South Side district is expected to launch in 2021.
The councilwoman, who is now serving her fourth and final term, feels that this much-needed good news is a great way to head into the new year.
“I am thrilled Amazon has invested in and selected District 3 for their delivery station,” said Viagran, the chair of the Economic and Workforce Development Committee. “Amazon’s planned delivery station at Brooks further indicates that District 3 is an invaluable asset for San Antonio. The hundreds of additional jobs at Amazon will create more opportunities for residents to live, work and play in the Southside.”
The announcement, she feels, also reinforces the City’s commitment to investing in a skilled workforce.

“Over the past several years, District 3 has been the centerpiece for new economic generation for the City of San Antonio with several major companies announcing creation or expansion of new facilities in the Southside,” she said. “We are happy to have Amazon join this illustrious group bringing jobs to San Antonians.”
The 350,000 square-foot delivery station will power the last stretch of Amazon’s order fulfillment process, where packages will be transported to delivery stations from the fulfillment centers, then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers.
Speaking of good tidings, Viagran has been busy this month distributing food, books, and even poinsettias to District 3 seniors, families, and frontline workers to help keep the holiday spirit ringing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is the time for giving and helping our community,” said Viagran. “Collaboration like this is essential and I am thankful that we are Southside Strong.”
And under her leadership, District 3 appears to be getting stronger.
