WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The Public Theatre has postponed their production of "35MM: A Musical Exhibition" due to Covid safety concerns
  • According to a spokesperson, some members of theatre's staff and creative team have been exposed to the virus

On Friday, the Public Theatre of San Antonio postponed their upcoming production of 35MM: A Musical Exhibition after learning that members of their staff and creative team have had exposure to the coronavirus. The show was set to open Jan. 14.

According to a post on the organization’s Facebook page, updates on the status of the show will be provided in the coming weeks.

“Unfortunately, this week we’ve had to suspend rehearsals for our upcoming production due to exposure to the virus among our staff and creative team,” a social media representative stated.

As the case count in San Antonio continues to rise, the Omicron surge has also made it difficult for the venue to meet testing requirements set by Actors’ Equity Association.

With increased testing volumes across the nation as well as logistical factors, such as severe weather and ongoing disruptions due to the pandemic, San Antonio residents are experiencing delays in receiving Covid-19 test results. In some cases, results have been estimated to take up to two to three days, according to a Jan. 9 statement from the City of San Antonio.

“For these reasons, and our desire to keep our staff, artists, and patrons safe, we are postponing the opening of 35MM: A Musical Exhibition,” the post read. “We apologize for this inconvenience, and we thank you for understanding as we navigate through another wave of uncertainty during this unprecedented pandemic.”

The Public Theatre isn’t the only venue having to delay their theatrical opening.

On Monday, all remaining performances of the Broadway tour of Hamilton were postponed due to a Covid outbreak within the production company.

35MM ticketholders who may have questions about their purchase should contact the theatre’s box office at 210-733-7258 or boxoffice@thepublicsa.org.
