Ashanti replaces Snoop Dogg as Headliner at Essex Music Festival

While many San Antonians anxiously snapped up their tickets for this Saturday’s Essex Music and Art Festival in the hopes that they would get to witness a DJ performance by hip hop icon, Snoop Dogg, their dreams would not come fruition this year. Fans of singer, actress, and producer, Ashanti, however, were delighted to discover that she would be taking the stage this Saturday, May 11th, for the much publicized music festival.
The move was announced on a post made on the Essex Modern City Facebook page today around 1 pm and revealed on an Instagram post around the same time. While many commenters on Facebook tossed out questions to the organizers of the event, the page responded to one post in particular by a Facebook user named Andrew Pruett who asked, “Does that mean Snoop is no longer performing?” The page’s moderators responded, “This year we have the opportunity to headline Ashanti Official who will do a full performance for our first Essex Art & Music Festival. And we are able to issue refunds through Eventbrite for the headlining switch.” Further down the thread, Jamie Len Cooke, a Facebook user who runs an event coordination company (JLen Events) that is involved with the event responded to Pruett’s concerns. "Unfortunately circumstances out of our control, over the weekend, and scheduling conflicts are preventing him from performing this weekend. All other fun festival activities are in full swing!” stated Cooke.
Representatives of Essex Art and Music Festival were unable to be reached for official comment at the time. This article will be updated with current information as necessary.
