Planning for the new Fiscal Year 2020 budget has begun. It will go through a long journey of meetings and public hearings until it is ready for adoption in September. It will then go into effect in October until September of 2020. A large gathering at the Henry B. Gonzales convention center on June 20th ushered in the first overview of the budget, with the process of talking about the budget was managed by an outside consulting firm to keep the process fluid and increase understanding among the old and new members. The new council began the process for the new fiscal year city budget by bringing together the goals of the council and combining them with surveys about the community opinions, voiced through an input process.

The first policy change the council is perusing is a Homestead exemption for San Antonio property owners. We will follow how this develops. The budget for fiscal year 2020 must be approved by October.
